The West of England Partnership's vision to improve transport across the region

Rapid Transit

UPDATE  - FUNDING SECURED FROM DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT DECEMBER 2011 - information to follow

The new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Network will be a higher quality experience; reliable, easy to use and understand, with modern vehicles and its own right of way. The BRT will have clear information, fast boarding and `smartcard’ ticketing linking with wider bus and rail services, creating a new way of travelling and be a catalyst for transforming public transport travel across the West of England area.

One of the first planned routes is part of the Bath Package and will link Newbridge in the west of Bath to the new park and ride in the east – providing a regular seamless service crossing the city centre and linking the new development at Western Riverside with city centre and outlying areas.

In the Bristol area the first route is planned between Ashton Vale and Temple Meads, via Bristol city centre and linking in with the wider bus and road network from Nailsea, Portishead and Clevedon and aimed at encouraging commuters and shoppers out of their cars.

A third route between Hengrove in south Bristol and the north and east fringe of Bristol will link the city centre and provide a rapid, reliable, frequent and punctual service for commuters and shoppers. Read more about the North Fringe to Hengrove Package.  A rapid transit link from Hengrove in South Bristol to the Ashton Vale Park & Ride site is also included as part of the South Bristol Link scheme.
